Mary Breeding

Mary Breeding is a Research Associate at ISIM. Her research at ISIM includes the development of new data on non-immigrant visas. She has worked closely with colleagues at ISIM and contacts at the Department of State to obtain visa issuance and admissions data for nearly 200 countries. She also obtained unpublished consular-level data on migration from India. Mary has a strong regional interest in South Asia and is especially interested in labor migration from India. Her research spans a variety of topics in public policy and political science. Mary has conducted extensive field research on issues regarding clientelism and subnational politics in India. She is currently working on a book project assessing the influence of clientelism on policy representation in Bangalore, India.
Dr. Breeding received her Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the School of Public Affairs at American University. Prior to starting at ISIM, Dr. Breeding was a Warren E. Miller Fellow at the American Political Science Association and she held a visiting post at the Institute for Social and Economic Change in Bangalore, India. Dr. Breeding has also taught courses at American University and Loyola College in Maryland.
