Children in the US-Mexico Migration: The .5 Generation

Silvia Giorguli is the President of the Colegio de México (COLMEX). She has been Professor at the Center for Demographic, Urban and Environmental Studies (CEDUA) at COLMEX since 2003 when she joined the faculty. She served as Director of CEDUA from 2009 to 2015, was President of the Mexican Society of Demography from 2011 to 2012, and was the founding Director (2011-14) of Coyuntura Demográfica.
Her research is focused on international migration from Mexico to the United States and its consequences on both sides of the border. Articles and chapters in books written by President Giorguli focus on education, family formation, and public policy responses. She is also committed to understanding the transitions to adulthood in Latin America and the effects of demographic change, particularly as they relate to education.
Currently, President Giorguli is co-researcher in the Mexican Migration Project with Princeton University, the University of Guadalajara, and Brown University. She previously took part in the Binational Dialogue on Mexican Migrants in the U.S. and in Mexico, sponsored by the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology and by ISIM at Georgetown University. In addition, she is taking part in Central America – North America Migration Dialogue: Policy Brief with these institutions.
