Danai Angeli is an Associate Professor of the Practice at the Institute for the Study of International Migration in Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. Her research examines migration governance, human rights, and sustainability, combining legal analysis with theoretical and policy-oriented inquiry. She has published in academic journals and edited volumes and has produced policy studies, operational guidance, and training materials for international organizations.
She brings more than 18 years of experience across academic, legal, and policy settings. Before joining Georgetown, she was an Assistant Professor of International Law at Bilkent University in Türkiye and an international consultant to the World Bank, where she led analytical and advisory work on migration, refugee integration, and disability-inclusive development. Since 2016, she has also worked as an international trainer for the Council of Europe, developing e‑courses and training legal and other professionals across its member states.
Earlier in her career, she held research positions at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and worked in refugee protection with UNHCR. She also served as Chair of the Greek Asylum Appeals Authority. A qualified lawyer, she has litigated asylum and migration cases before the European Court of Human Rights.
She holds a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, gardening, and cycling.
