Georgetown’s ISIM, together with Refugees International, the Overseas Development Institute, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of IDPs, and the Ukrainian Congress of IDP Councils organized the third international conference on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on 26 April 2026. The focus of the conference was on the ways that IDPs protect themselves and press for accountability mechanisms. The conference also provided an opportunity to introduce the recently-published Oxford Handbook on Internal Displacement.
The event featured a keynote address by UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Paula Gaviria Betancur and two panel discussions with experts and internally displaced leaders.
