Timo Tonassi is an Assistant Research Professor at Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM). His work focuses on data analysis in the fields of migration, refugees, and internal displacement. He collaborates with multidisciplinary research teams across the United Nations system and contributes to improving global data collection for the Periodic Global Report on the State of Solutions to Internal Displacement (PROGRESS).
His research combines quantitative methods with policy-oriented analysis and has been published in academic and policy outlets. He regularly presents his findings internationally. In addition to his research, he has taught at Georgetown University and co-teaches a biannual transatlantic seminar on refugee management in Berlin in partnership with University of Notre Dame.
Prior to joining Georgetown University, he was a Senior Researcher at the Expert Council on Integration and Migration(SVR), where he led research projects on migration and integration and advised policymakers. His work has been featured in major media outlets. He has also held positions at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and Deloitte.
Timo holds a Ph.D. from the Free University of Berlin.
