Mary Curtis
Assistant Director
Mary Claire Curtis is the Assistant Director of the Institute for the Study of International Migration in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She joined ISIM in Fall 2023 after several years working with refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers in the UK and US.
Prior to joining Georgetown, she established the first Refugee Health Program in Connecticut and partnered with Yale University to develop educational resources for refugees and healthcare providers to better understand the needs of new Americans.
Mary Claire has spent the past ten years raising awareness and advocating in solidarity with migrant and refugee communities. Her work ranges from research pertaining to protection and participatory leadership of women in the MENA region with the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, to holistic community building and integration with Jesuit Refugee Service (Serviço Jesuíta aos Refugiados) in Lisbon, education access for emerging communities in London, and humanitarian empowerment in Juarez with Our Lady's Youth Center.
A graduate of University of East London's Centre for Migration, Refugees and Belonging, her research focused on conflict resolution within displaced communities and the impact of localized development projects on peacebuilding in Colombia.
Additional work and research centers the importance of nutrition access and education within marginalized communities in the United States, and the role of sustainable agricultural practices.
