Siobhán McGuirk
Adjunct Assistant Professor, Georgetown College
Siobhán McGuirk is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Women and Gender Studies Program. She received her MA in Visual Anthropology from the University of Manchester (2010) and received her PhD in Anthropology from American University (2016).
Siobhán's research and teaching focuses on the intersections of migration, gender and sexuality, and state power, issues which she addressed in her doctoral dissertation, "LGBT Asylum Seekers and NGO Advocacy in the United States." Siobhán has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) US Office, and for the National LGBTQ Task Force. She produces podcasts for the Society for Cultural Anthropology and is a Commissioning Editor for Red Peppermagazine. Her scholarship has been awarded prizes from the Society for the Anthropology of North America, and from American University.
