Cecilia Ignacio
Cecilia Ignacio is from Manila, Philippines, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and English, along with a minor in Computing and Digital Technologies. During her time at Notre Dame, she conducted research on migrant female identity in coming-of-age literature. She also volunteered at One More Citizen, a non-profit organization, where she tutored permanent residents for the language and civics sections of the citizenship exam. Additionally, Cecilia interned with Rappler, an award-winning online news platform run by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa, focusing her journalistic research on the history of migrant worker deployment bans in the Middle East.
As an incoming student in the MIMR program at Georgetown, Cecilia is eager to learn from her peers and the esteemed SFS faculty about gender and immigrant family dynamics. She also aims to develop her skills in migration analytics through the program's concentration. This next academic journey aligns with her dedication to creating spaces for all migrants to embrace their hybrid identities and find a sense of home anywhere.
