Valeria Aron Said
Valeria graduated with a degree in Political Science and Government from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. With nearly 5 years of diverse professional experience, she is currently pursuing a Master's degree in International Migration and Refugee Studies. Valeria has immersed herself in migration issues across academia, the public sector, and humanitarian organizations.
Her public sector career began at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, in the Special Commission for Refugees. Later, at the Ministry of Education, Valeria contributed to initiatives integrating Venezuelan children and adolescents into Peru's educational system, gaining valuable insights into migration policy and implementation that shaped her subsequent roles in humanitarian organizations and academia.
Furthering her commitment to humanitarian causes, Valeria worked extensively with UNHCR in the Field Office of Tumbes, a critical entry point for Venezuelan migrants in Peru's northern border region. There, she focused on improving child protection measures and expanding educational opportunities, demonstrating her dedication to addressing the challenges faced by migrant populations.
Currently, Valeria serves as a research assistant at Boston University and a teaching assistant at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Throughout her career transitions, her passion for migration studies and academic research has been pivotal. She has co-authored 3 book chapters and 4 academic articles, and she is an affiliated researcher at the Chair of Research on Forced Migration and Displacement in Latin America and the Caribbean.
